DNS is an abbreviation for Domain Name System
DNS allows users to visit sites by entering a Registered Domain Name, rather than using a long series of numbers known as an IP address. This is accomplished by a series of name servers that convert these names to IP addresses.
Administrators of name servers have found that registrations have been "pointing" towards their service without authorization. These name servers would be incapable of answering DNS queries and a negative response to these queries places a burden on systems. "Lame Delegation" is the condition whereby a name-space is delegated to an entity but that entity will not answer to that name. DNS follows the following policy:
If the query of the Domain Name returns a non-authoritative response from all the listed name servers, the query will be repeated at random intervals. If the name servers still provide no SOA response, the name will be placed in a "hold" status and the DNS information will no longer be propagated. The Domain will then be deleted and made available for re-registration. Sidetrips registers your Domain on our own controlled DNS, which protects your Domain from being taken away by InterNIC due to "Lame Delegation". |
